Sad News – Douglas Heist

July 23, 2020

We have some very sad news to share. Yesterday morning, Alex Hall was walking through the church grounds and found Doug Heist unresponsive in his car near the large parking lot. The car engine was still running. Alex immediately called 911 and the paramedics arrived soon after. They tended to Doug for quite some time and he was then taken to St. Agnes Hospital, where he died early Sunday afternoon. He was 69 years old. Doug joined the CPC staff in May 2008.

We are all shocked and shaken by Doug’s death. He appeared to be fine on Saturday afternoon when we recorded Sunday’s service. We know this is difficult news for all of us to receive.

We’ve been in touch with Doug’s brother, Dwight, in Danville, VA, who is making arrangements. There will be a private graveside service at the cemetery of Zionsville Bible Fellowship Church in Zionsville, PA, where their parents are buried.

A memorial service in the sanctuary will be held when it’s safe for us to gather together.

We have also been in touch with Jen Carlson, and will be making sure that she is looked after and supported at this time.

We give thanks for Doug’s incredible talent and for his love of music and his service to the church. Dwight recently asked Doug, “Do you ever consider retiring?” Doug said, “No. I just want to keep on going. It’s my service to the Lord.”

Please keep Jen, Doug’s family, his many students, colleagues, friends, and fellow members of the congregation in your prayers.

Rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord. And let light perpetual shine upon him.
