Service for the Lord’s Day

Gathering around the word

Prelude: Morning Has Broken/Crown Him With Many Crowns, Arr. Wilhelmi/Keveren

† Call to Worship (Psalm 103:1-5, 22)

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless God’s holy name.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all God’s benefits –
who forgives all your iniquity and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit of destruction,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good for as long as you live.

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me, bless God’s holy name!

† Hymn #315, “In the Midst of New Dimensions”

Prayer of Adoration

Call To confession

Prayer of confession

God, you know the things that bedevil us and diminish our discipleship: our egos, our envy, our need to be right, our need to be well thought-of by others before we can love ourselves, our delirium when it comes to being in control. Whatever possesses us, we ask you to disable it. Do a clean sweep of our souls so that, through your Spirit, we can carry on the movement Jesus began.

Silent prayer of confession.

Assurance of Pardon

Friends, hear the good news: “Anyone in Christ is a new creation;
the old has passed into oblivion; see, everything has become new!”

Our lives are given back to us with hope, for in the name of Jesus Christ,
our sins are forgiven.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit, may the promises of God be made real in our lives today.

The One who hears our cries and delivers us will lead us in the dance of life. Thanks be to God!

† Response: Hymn #772 (v. 4), “Live Into Hope”

Hymn #772 will be used throughout the 226th General Assembly of the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

Live into hope of captives freed,
from chains of fear or want or greed.
God now proclaims our full release,
to faith and hope and joy and peace.

Proclaiming the Word

Children’s Message

Prayer of Illumination

O God, as we reach out to touch the hem of your garment, open our wounded hearts to the balm of your Word, so that we cannot help but respond with wonder, faith, and trust. Amen.

Scripture: Mark 5:21-34

When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered around him, and he was by the sea. Then one of the leaders of the synagogue, named Jairus, came and, when he saw him, fell at his feet and pleaded with him repeatedly, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.” So he went with him.

And a large crowd followed him and pressed in on him. Now there was a woman who had been suffering from a flow of blood for twelve years. She had endured much under many physicians and had spent all that she had, and she was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, for she said, “If I but touch his cloak, I will be made well.” Immediately her flow of blood stopped, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. Immediately aware that power had gone forth from him, Jesus turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my cloak?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing in on you; how can you say, ‘Who touched me?’” He looked all around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling, fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”

Responding to the Word

† Hymn #178: “The Woman Hiding in the Crowd”

Call to Offering

Offering of Tithes and Gifts

OffertorY: God So Loved the World, arr. Fred Bock

† Doxology #607, “Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow”

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Christ, all people here below;
Praise Holy Spirit evermore;
Praise Triune God, whom we adore. Amen.

† Prayer of Dedication

Accept our gifts, O God, as a sign of our pledge to work together to be salt and light in this world. Through our offerings may children grow in faith, may adults be empowered to bear witness, and may hope come alive for those beyond our doors. As we go out to follow Christ in mission, may the contours of your realm be visible on earth as it is in heaven, for the sake of your holy name. Amen.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, lover of all… trail wide the hem of your garment.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power
and the glory, forever. Amen.

† Hymn #346, “For the Healing of the Nations”

† Charge & Benediction

Now, as we disperse to follow Christ into the world,
may the power of God course through your veins;
may the glory of God crown you with honor and majesty;
may the peace of God rest in your heart;
and may the door of your heart always stand open.
Amen.

July Fundraiser for Women’s Hygiene and Health

Again this year, the Mission Committee invites the congregation to participate in a fundraising campaign for women’s hygiene kits, in association with Church World Service (CWS). It is estimated that in this country alone, two out of every five women and teens lack the financial resources or access to meet their monthly hygiene needs such as tampons, napkins, and wipes. CWS prepares and distributes these kits, but its supplies are extremely low. CWS encouraged the Mission Committee to continue its efforts for women’s hygiene health. Last year, over $3,000 was raised.

The Mission Committee recommends a donation of $20 per hygiene kit, but any amount—greater or lesser—will be graciously accepted! Contributions can be made by cash, check, online giving, or the QR code displayed at the display table. Members of the Mission Committee will be available in the France Room every Sunday in July after church to share information and accept contributions.

Pizza in the Pavilion

On Sunday, August 11, at 5 p.m., the Fellowship Committee is hosting Pizza in the Pavilion. All are invited to attend! We will provide pizza, beverages, and lawn games. Please RSVP to the office no later than August 4. We will need a few people to bring dessert – if you are willing to do so, please let Stephanie know! You are also welcome to bring games of your own.

This event will be held rain or shine. If it is over 90 degrees or rainy, we will move inside to the Fellowship Hall.
