Worship: World Communion Sunday

  • Date: Sunday, October 2, 2022
  • Time: 10:30am11:30am
  • Location: Sanctuary

The first Sunday in October is designated as World Communion Sunday, which celebrates our oneness in Christ with all our siblings around the world. Paul tells us that we are to “discern the body” when we partake of Holy Communion, mindful that we note our relationship to all our brothers and sisters in Christ in the celebration. One is not to go hungry while another is drunk! (I Cor. 11:21). This would be scandalous behavior opposed to the Way of Christ. Thus it is appropriate that World Communion Sunday is also a time when we receive the annual Peace and Global Witness Offering as a way of continuing the ancient Christian practice of sharing what we have with brothers and sisters in need.

The Peace & Global Witness Offering encourages the church to cast off anxiety and fear, discord and division, and embrace our God’s mission of reconciliation to those around the corner and around the world. This Special Offering of the PCUSA enables the church to promote the peace of Christ by addressing systems of conflict and injustice across the world. CPC will utilize up to 25% of this Offering to connect with the global witness of Christ’s peace. Mid councils retain an additional 25% for ministries of peace and reconciliation. The remaining 50% is used by the Presbyterian Mission Agency to advocate for peace and justice in cultures of violence, including our own, through collaborative projects of education and Christian witness

In Person

In-person worship depends on the Maryland positivity testing rate. Read about the in-person worship statuses, and check the home page for this week’s status. Our focus remains on keeping everyone safe, so we respectfully request that attendees wear a mask to protect those who are not currently eligible to receive the vaccine. The bathrooms are open, and no reservations are required. We ask that family members sit together and practice social distancing. The balcony is closed.

There is an accessible entrance with a ramp that is reached from the Frederick Road small parking lot. Accessible restrooms are available as well. Large print bulletins and hearing assistance earphones are provided in the rear of the sanctuary.

Livestream

For those who choose to worship online, worship is livestreamed on both Catonsville Presbyterian’s public Facebook page and YouTube channel. You may also follow the service via Zoom (audio only). The link for the Zoom meeting is sent out each week in our email newsletter. Recordings of the service may also be viewed on either Facebook or YouTube afterward. To aid you in following the service online, the Order of Worship is posted each week on the home page and is also sent out in our email newsletter.
