“Let grace come and may this world pass away! ~Didache 10.6.

The what? The Didache. That’s not in the Bible. You’re correct. However, several early Church Fathers did consider it part of the New Testament, but others rejected it later as non-canonical. As such, it had considerable influence on the development of the early Church. Literally meaning, “Teaching,” the Didache was also known as The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles and might have some connection to the Gospel of Matthew. The Didache is a brief, anonymous treatise, dated by most scholars to the first century. It has three main sections dealing with Christian ethics, liturgy and worship (including baptism and Eucharist), and Church organization. The text was lost for centuries, until it was rediscovered in 1873. And a Latin version was discovered in 1900.

We’ll have copies of the Didache available for you. This is a unique opportunity to study a text that shaped the worship life of the early Church. May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30. ~Ken Kovacs

The Thursday Morning Bible Study is open to all. It is an intensive study of the Bible that is informed by insights from contemporary biblical scholarship, led by the Rev. Dr. Kovacs. The group selects a book of the Bible and then reads through it slowly, intentionally, aided by a scholarly work or commentary. The group meets in the Library, most easily accessed from the small parking lot on Frederick Road.
