Adult Education: A Christmas Carol

  • Date: Sunday, December 15, 2019
  • Time: 9:00am10:15am
  • Location: Library

Charles Dickens’ beloved “ghost” story first appeared in 1843, to critical acclaim. Since then, generations have come to love the story and today it’s an essential part of the Christmas season. “The beauty and blessing of the story,” G. K. Chesterton said, “lie in the great furnace of real happiness that glows through Scrooge and everything around him. …Whether the Christmas visions would or would not convert Scrooge, they convert us.” This Advent, we’ll explore why Dickens wrote his novella, focus on the actual text, and highlight the implicit Christian themes running through it, with a special focus on how a human life is transformed, and for what end. Led by Dr. Ken Kovacs.

We invite you to (re)read the story; a free online version is available here: http://www.literatureproject.com/xmas-carol/.
