Adult Education: Finding Brigid
- Date: Sunday, February 2, 2020
- Time: 9:00am–10:15am
- Location: Library
Patrick may be Ireland’s best known saint, but Brigid (also spelled Brigit) figures prominently among its three patron saints, with the third being Columba (also called Columcille, the founder of the monastery at Iona). Several Christian churches celebrate Brigid at this time of the year, particularly for her association with daily life of the Irish people– from bringing forth the flame on the hearth to the birthing of lambs and churning of butter. This Adult Ed hour will be a journey to find Brigid at her wells and monastery and through her stories. Personal photography, historical texts, and current scholarship will be the basis of uncovering some of the facts and fables associated with this early Celtic woman who is said to stand “on the boundary between pagan mythology and Christian spirituality.” Led by Brenda Logue
