Dismantling Racism – May Video Discussion

  • Date: Monday, May 17, 2021
  • Time: 7:30pm–9:00pm
  • Location: Zoom Online Meeting
  • Contact: Vickie Lord

May is Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. In recognition of the month and in light of increased racist attacks on the AAPI community, the Dismantling Racism Committee will host a video viewing and discussion focussing on some of the challenges faced by that community.

The first video is from a 2020 CBS News program, “Asian Americans: Battling Bias.” The second video is the second episode from the PBS web series “What I Hear When You Say…” and focuses on the “Model Minority Myth.” We’ll watch the videos as a group and then discuss what we learned, our reactions, and what actions we can take in response. We hope you can join us for another lively discussion on the history and current challenges of bias and racism in the US and can be done to dismantle racism in all its many forms.

Please register below so that we may send you the Zoom details for the call as we get closer to the event date. This event will run from 7:30-9pm on Monday, May 17th.
